MOCA WOOD JAPAN

Booth No. : AC009

Exhibition Details

MocaWood is a next-generation wood material made from sustainable Japanese larch and red pine, treated with our original vacuum-pressure heat process. This method uses no chemicals, yet achieves high durability and dimensional stability. MocaWood is ideal for those who once gave up on wood, assumed paint was essential, or relied only on imported materials.

Japanese larch and pine, non-chemical heat-treated siding and decking.

  • Award-winning example using MocaWood (larch siding), recipient of the Nagano City Urban Landscape Award.
  • Example of screw-free installation using MocaWood (red pine), selected for a villa in Karuizawa.

Summary of Business

Our company was founded in 2022. The founder, Junji Maruyama, has over 20 years of experience in the wood preservation industry, including design, sales, construction, academic research, and field studies.

The core technology behind our products—vacuum-pressure heat treatment—was developed through more than a decade of joint research with the Nagano Prefectural Forestry Research Center, one of Japan’s leading institutions for wood drying studies.

Unlike other prefectures in Japan, where cedar (sugi) and cypress (hinoki) account for about 70% of forest volume, Nagano has a unique forestry makeup: approximately 70% of its forests are made up of Japanese larch (karamatsu) and Japanese red pine (akamatsu). These species offer about 1.5 times the strength of cedar and cypress.

Our heat-treated larch maintains a long-lasting brown color even without coating, making it ideal for exterior siding. Heat-treated red pine, on the other hand, is excellent for decking due to its strength and low risk of splintering.

We responsibly source and produce this sustainable material in-house and distribute it directly across Japan. MocaWood has been highly praised and is even used in Japan’s largest theme parks.
