Summary of Business
We, the Committee for Milk Container Environmental Issue, are a cross-industry organization, established in 1992, consisted from dairy associations, dairy companies, beverage paper carton companies, used paper wholesalers and recycled paper companies. Our members are approximately 130 associations and companies nationwide from Hokkaido to Okinawa. We aim (1) to investigate the actual conditions of manufacturing, using and recycling status of paper cartons used for various beverage products such as milk, (2) to introduce the features, advantages and correct information of paper packs and (3) to promote recycling of paper cartons as part of environmental protection, promotion of SDGs and enlightenment and education for citizens and students. In order to promote these activities, we collaborate with various dairy manufactures, beverage paper carton companies, recycled paper wholesalers and recycled paper makers, government offices, educational institutions, schools, research companies, supermarkets and stores and other organization. At this SDGs Week EXPO 2025 “ECO-PRO 2025”, we will introduce the efforts for recycling of beverage paper cartons as follows;
(1) Relation between beverage paper carton recycling and the goals of SDGs. Recycling of beverage paper cartons is a very familiar and effortless contribution for SDGs.
(2) Importance of rules and steps for beverage paper carton recycling: "Washing, Opening, and Drying" three step procedure and the appropriate separation from other papers are very important for recycling.
(3) Relation between forest management and beverage paper cartons. Paper cartons are manufactured from strictly controlled Nordic European and North American planted conifer forests, especially from the scrap or thinned wood that cannot be used as a building and/or furniture material. Proper cultivation and use of conifer trees suppress the factitious impacts on natural forest including rainforest.
(4) Recycling process of used beverage paper cartons: the process of collecting used paper carton and making recycled paper products, and various kind of recycled paper products.
(5) Beverage Paper Carton Craft Award “Asobu-Manabu (play and learn) Competition” winning works. We will exhibit the actual prize-winning craft works made from used beverage paper cartons presented by elementary school students nationwide.
