Ha House is an architectural materials studio committed to bringing buildings closer to the natural environment and the rich cultural heritage of Japan. We develop products that express the inherent beauty of domestic materials while strengthening the environmental and cultural landscapes from which they come.

Our mission is simple: to make materials that benefit the places that produce them and work closely with forests, their stewards, and regional communities, supporting sustainable forestry and traditional craft through considered design and responsible production. Rather than inventing for novelty, we focus on innovation within existing systems, adding value to established materials and processes and introducing them to new audiences in Japan and abroad.

Ha House believes that native Japanese timbers such as sugi and hinoki possess qualities of warmth, durability, and character that resonate globally. By refining these materials through contemporary design, we aim to serve both the domestic market and international premium construction and design sectors seeking authenticity, performance, and cultural depth.

Felix Conran – Director, Creativity
Felix leads the creative direction of Ha House, seeking inspiration in materials, heritage, and human experience. He focuses on developing products that improve the lives of those who live with them, make them, and specify them. Felix is also an advisor to the World Monuments Fund, supporting the preservation of Japan’s tangible and intangible cultural assets—an ethos that informs Ha House’s commitment to continuity and care.

Marcus Consolini – Director, Operations
Marcus oversees operations with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and global reach. With a background in finance and investment banking, experience renovating historic Japanese properties, and as the first foreign owner-manager of a Japanese sake brewery, he is a committed advocate for “craft Japan.” He drives the effective delivery of Ha House products to both domestic and international markets.

End Grain Flooring

Our first product is an end grain flooring tile made from solid Yoshino sugi and produced in Yoshino. By cutting across the grain, the tiles reveal the life of the tree—each piece a unique cross-section of time. Installed tile by tile, the system allows for diverse patterns and design flexibility not possible with traditional floorboards. The result is a durable, character-rich surface engineered for strength and longevity.

Tanbo Carpet Tiles

In collaboration with Hotta Carpet, we developed “Tanbo,” a collection of 100% wool carpet tiles available in four colours. The range reflects a shared commitment to material integrity, modularity, and subtle expression rooted in landscape and craft.

Exterior Cladding

Our next release reimagines the infrastructure and material processes of Japan’s chopstick-making industry, transforming them into an exterior cladding system. By working with existing production networks, we create new architectural applications that extend the life and relevance of regional craft industries.
