WoodHub.fi serves as the central implementation and export platform of the EU-funded Etelä-Savo Goes Global project, carried out in cooperation with the City of Savonlinna and the Regional Council. The objective of the project is to support the internationalisation and long-term export development of wood product companies from South Savo, with a particular focus on the markets of Japan, Germany and France.

Eastern Finland has exceptionally long and strong industrial traditions in the wood products sector. The region’s key strengths include sustainable and certified forest management, high-quality selection of wood raw material, and efficient, reliable logistics from forest to processing and onwards to international markets. The wood raw material is of high quality, fully traceable and responsibly utilised, forming a solid foundation for environmentally friendly and high-value end products.

The core objective of the project is to refine this high-quality wood raw material into technically demanding and ecological wood products suitable especially for wood construction as well as for other professional and everyday applications. This work is supported by Finnish universities and wood research laboratories, which contribute to material development, testing and technical validation. The product offering focuses primarily on glued and further-processed engineered wood products, including structural and component solutions. In addition, the portfolio includes products in which the wood raw material is modified using various technologies to improve durability, dimensional stability and service life, such as Thermowood and other modified wood materials.

The WoodHub.fi platform functions as a digital meeting point and export-support tool, designed to identify and build long-term business partnerships, particularly between Finnish and Japanese companies. The platform connects manufacturers from South Savo, their products and technical expertise directly with buyers, designers and construction industry professionals in the target markets.

At the heart of the cooperation project are responsibility, high quality, technical competence and long-term, trust-based collaboration. The goal is not a single trade fair appearance, but the creation of permanent export channels and sustainable business relationships in the demanding wood products markets of Europe and Japan.
